Snapper Galore in the Gulf
Posted by Graeme McIntosh on
Along with Army Bay neighbour, Bill Anderson and South Island visitor, Bill Bestick, we went in search of some Hauraki Gulf Snapper last Thursday. Weather perfect, tide and wind (as such) in harmony. Bingo, a few kms the Little Barrier side if Tiri, good marks on the sounder.
Anchored up for what was non-stop action until we had ample for dinner and enough for Bill to take back to Christchurch. With Snapper never found south of Kaikoura, this would be a welcome change from a diet of Blue Cod!
Further excitement when an agressive Mako took a shine to one of our rigs and performed the obligatory five sommersaults arouind the boat after being hooked up. Last seen heading off in the direction of Gt Barrier.
