MANUKAU/WEST COAST FISHING REPORT

My pick for this weekend: I’m sure the westerlies will die down to a reasonable level. Concentrate on the harbour as the coast will be too lively. Get up early to take advantage of the early tide and fish right through to low. Concentrate on the shallower depths with a live bait out the back, a burley bomb tied on a short rope to the bottom of the anchor warp and target gurnard right beneath the boat using a flasher rig and small baits.

Capt. Gav's Auckland Harbour Fishing Report

Good snapper are still being caught close around the hole at Motuihe off the wharf and also the Rangitoto Channel, although the snapper are moving out wider and are not in the large numbers we had over the summer months. Another spot with good numbers at the moment is out around the Noises and between D’Urville rock and Gannet Rock at the bottom end of Waiheke.

Northland fishery officers recently caught several recreational fishers making illegal roadside sales of their catch from the boots of their cars. The first incident involved a 50-year-old Whangarei woman who was caught selling mullet from the boot of her car near the intersection of a state highway in Whangarei.
