Winter work-up magic
When the weather's as good as it's been recently, there's absolutely no excuse not to get out for a fish.
It may be cold but, at times, the fishing can be red-hot if you're keen enough to brave it.
NZ Fishing World's Graeme Paterson and Mat Hewetson were rewarded with some of the best winter snapper fishing they've enjoyed in years when they took the Fyran 640 out this week.
They headed to near Coromandel at first light and quickly located a huge work-up with hungry dolphins doing their thing. Slowjigs down and bang! It was all on from the start. This was meant to be winter fishing was it not?

The snapper were hitting hard and fast. As soon as the jigs hit the bottom, they were quickly nailed by voracious feeders.
None of the fish landed were under 50cm and many were released including one at around 5kg in perfect condition.
One surprise to come out of the trip was that many of the fish seemed to be showing signs of roe and we're not even into spring yet. This could be a sign of a great snapper season to come. Bring it on!
