A update from Spearfishing New Zealand, including results from the World Championships in Spain plus upcoming local events.

World Spearfishing Championships, Laredo, Spain

Congratulations to the New Zealand Spearfishing Team for an outstanding effort at the World Spearfishing Championships.

Alex Edwards, our first ever female Worlds competitor won the first day of the women's and although overtaken by the reigning World Champion, Magdalena Sart Bonnin of Spain, held in their for the Silver Medal. She also caught the best fish of the Women's competition.

Our men's team of Dwane Herbert, Chris Marshall and Rowan Virbickas were a very respectable 6th in a strong field of 23 teams. Dwane came in at 5th on the second day and Chris Marshall came in at 8th on the first day.

A big thank you to Mal Bird for managing the team.

Congratulations to Spain for winning all categories of this years World Champs and to our Tahitian friends from across the Pacific for coming second in the Women's Team event and 3rd in the Men's Team event. They could be the team to beat at next year's Inter-Pacific's in Mercury Bay, New Zealand.
