  Unlike Aussie fishermen, Kiwis are not accustomed to fishing lures and it was the advent of soft baits that really turned their attention to what, for most, is a new style of fishing. Then along came slow jigs, and just when people were feeling comfortable with soft plastics and catching fish in surprising numbers and places (like white water), they had to start all over again.

  Baitcasters seem to have some dedicated fans and there is often debate between soft bait fishermen who prefer spin reels and those who prefer the new high-tech baitcasters. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and to me, it really comes down to a matter of personal preference. I have always been a big fan of spinning reels as they are easy to use, easy to cast and seem to have far fewer mechanical problems. So when I was given the new Shimano Chronarch 200E7 to take out for a test I had to leave my love of spinning reels at home and go in with an open mind.
