Well given the last few weeks has been pretty punishing with the southerlies taking their toll on fishing conditions, and definitely dropping the temp, there’s not as much to report as I would like 😊 From the shore, up further north has been fishing really well for spells, then turning off to dead for a while. Pretty hard to pick why, although the full moon in the last few days is certainly a likely factor.

Doing it after dark. The best beach fishing from shore lately, up north, is when the sun has said see ya tomorrow!

Primarily the best fishing is after dark up Otaki and north, so the moon has a big part to play.

I expect there’s a bit of good fishing to be had in the nxt few days as the weather is set to finally give us a decent crack at it.

It’s often quite exciting after the fishing has been forced to take a break as you never quite know how it’s going to fire up out there.

There’s still a few good snapper around, although it seems to have tailed off from peak summer fishing.

Our more recent trips out, sheltering up around Mana, were pretty devoid of snapper, although plenty of teri’s, trevs and kahawai happily made up the pot.

There are still sporadic catches of the little bluefin off areas up around Foxton, and a few albies north of Kapiti, but nothing to really write home about.

The southerly swell may have also been the culprit in turning the water a bit greener recently, when previously it had been nice and blue.

In the harbour, snapper are still biting, and there’s still some good kingfish action to be had for those making the most of our weather windows.

And speaking of windows, the next four days are showing 10 knot variables so the boat ramps might get a bit of a hiding.  Could pay to get there early and hit your favourite spot with good mid-morning high tides on Saturday.

After a bit of a break, all the good places like Hunter’s, Fisherman’s, and the back of Mana should offer up some nice action.

With the water temps a bit colder I would be trying a bit deeper like 40 – 60 metres, but will know after a couple of trips where it’s trending.

There is a local club fishing comp this weekend, but other than that, I think everyone is just pleased to be able to get out and give it a go.

Cheers

Pete
