Here I discuss the basics of how to play/fight fish with some advanced tips at the end.
I am assuming you know about drag settings on a reel. If not, here is a video that helps explain setting your drag and the 30% rule when it comes to fishing gear: https://youtu.be/InOSngNZE2w I discuss how to use the rod and reel during the fight and in the advanced section, I talk about understanding fish swimming movement and the timing of when to apply as much pressure as possible to turn a big fish's head. If you're faced with losing a big fish on the reef or are getting spooled, you have 2 options - break your line trying to turn the fish or have the fish cut you off. You have to pick your moment to try and apply maximum pressure to turn the fish's head. But there's a trick to understanding when that is.
