Fishing has been very good over the past few weeks, with good sized snappers and some donkey gurnard also very plentiful. Most good fishing has been happening out towards Gannet Island or off Albatross Point, which is our go-to destination, in around 50-60 metres.

What snapper can resist a well presented mullet?

Kingfish are also showing up in better numbers now, just to stretch the arms.  They are not monsters, anything from just legal to over a metre.

The makos and blue sharks are making an appearance some days, so take plenty of replacement gear.

If you are the ‘chosen one’ they will rob you blind.

Kahawai are also in numbers this week the most we have caught in a long time.

Mackerel are also about and some pretty big ones at that.  Great for fresh bait but their eating values should also not be underrated.

Smoked or raw sashimi, they are pretty good.

The weather over the next week is looking a bit up and down, but it shouldn’t be too long before we start seeing the warming temperatures bring in the skipjack, albacore tuna, and bigger gamefish.

Bring it on.

Cheers

Rob
