Fishing is going is as hot as the weather at present. The snapper fishing here are absolutely on fire with some very solid units up to 15lb. The main area we have been fishing down off Marakopa in about 45-50 meters but had a try off Aotea Reef a few times, and the results have been much the same but out a little deeper in in 50-60 metres.

We have been getting a good mixed bag to go with the snapps, including gurnard, trevally, kahawai and the odd kingfish in the mix.

Also don't discount the old theory of fish-your-feet-first, as in close around 20-25 metres we have had good results as well.

The tuna have finally moved a bit closer, and if you are targeting them now, head for the 50 metre mark and you will likely find them.

Skippys and albacore we are catching are often spewing up large amounts of squid about four inches long, so little light or squid coloured lures should be great.

Marlin are still hot on the bite out in 100 meters but in closer should be worth a try now as the blue water is almost at the bar so things are looking very good on this front.

Cheers

Rob
