Fishing recently has been occasionally good but not up to our usual standard over the full moon.

The moon can have a strange effect off the west, sometimes a full can really fire them up, and other times, well, not so much.

Thankfully the one thing we can guarantee when the bite has been a bit tough, is that it’s only a matter of time before it really takes off again, and it looks like that time is coming as we move now into a good phase over the next week.

As an added bonus, the weather is also looking great with seas forecast to be looking flat as.

Fresh kahawai and couta are still working really well strips are working the best.

The bite was very soft and small baits really have the advantage it does not give the fish a chance to be too fussy, and Rodney the rod holder wasn’t catching too well, you had to actually be applying yourself to them to catch the mouthing of the bait.

We’ve still been fishing south of Taharoa in around 40-50 meters.

There’s been plenty of bait on the surface and kahawai working them. The water has changed colour a bit so with the green hue back in the water I’m guessing that’s the reason we have seen no tuna about.

Some days the water is very green but at least it seems to be holding the snapper.

May is still a very productive month fishing wise and a great time to be catching donkey snaps in nice and close too.
