The west coast continues to be the place to fish. Fishing is still going strong for this time of the year with no shortage of snapper every trip we make out there. Although the opportunities are few and far between with the blustery winter weather, that just makes it all the better when we do get out over the bar.

When it’s good, it’s usually great, and we do still get some very nice winter days that can be pure magic.

Most fishing is happening out in the 55-65 meters north of Albatross Point as per our last reports.

Birds are the key, and any sort of bird action seems to be reflected by having fish under them.

Kingfish are still on the menu, with a few nice fish coming on board without even targeting them specifically.

Snapper size is a bit all over the show, some days really good sized fish are plentiful, and others turning up solid pannies or as we like to refer to them, ‘just good eaters’.

It appears to just depend on what size the fish are in the school.

Spiny dogs haven’t been too bad recently, some days more present than others, but still good snapper numbers in among them.

Gurnard have been really firing, with great great size and good numbers.

Kahawai are in peak winter condition with enough to keep everyone happy.

Weather-wise this week  is not looking too flash, towards the end of next week we may see a gap but will have to wait and see.

Cheers

Rob
